The most variety that is offered in floor coverings is considered to be area rugs. But - before you buy any area rug, you need to first know several things about them. They do define a space well and elevate your style and whether you buy machine or handmade modern or antique, there are still some things that you need to contemplate.
Size
If you want to hide the entire room with an area rug, it is advised to leave a 15-inch to 12-inch boundary of flooring bare to frame the rug.
Any rugs going to go beneath the table in the dining room needs to be big enough so when seating down at the table, the chairs back legs still stays on the rug with ample space for anyone using a chair to be able to push the chair back from the table and for a person to stand up.
Another thing is that when you go to buy your rug, take a tape measure. A 9' by 12' rug very often is not really that size. Like clothing sizes they tend to be measured so that you know what is the true size you are buying, specifically if it a rug that is handmade.
Shape
What shape do you want as they come in oval, rectangle and square? Place a paper piece on the corners of where the rug will fall in the area you wish to cover. Then measure this space adjusting the corners to make the space smaller or larger to match the standards for rug size. You will need to have to do this a few times to get it down to within a few inches.
If you are thinking about a rug that is round, you may run a tape piece beginning in the center of the space that you want to cover to the outside. Measure this. You now have the circle's radius. By doubling that and you now have the diameter of the area. Rugs that are round are sold by the diameter.
Oval or oblong rugs are measured the same as a rectangles - by the length of the longest part and the width of the widest part. You can run a piece of tape on the floor to define the length and a second piece of tape to define the width. You will end up with a large taped cross on the floor, but it will give you exactly how large an oblong you will need for covering the space.
Color
Color is important for an area rug -just as important as how it was made. The grouping of color, setting and design, all together announce your own special statement.
Area rugs really do not have to equal the colors of the room exactly. Really great interior designs often feature groupings of colors that either compliment or contrast the room's primary color.
Area rugs are wonderful ways to add style to your rooms whether you use them in every room or just in a few rooms.
Area rugs are a great way to compliment a room. But the measurement of the area to be covered it important as area rugs come in certain sizes.
