The visit of the daughter of former US presidential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy (brother of John F. Kennedy), Ms. Kerry Kennedy, which began in the Polisario camps in south west Algeria on August 29, was marked by severe security measures taken by the leaders of the separatist movement to prevent any demonstrations or sit-in in the camps,

A demonstration in the refugee camps was organized by family members of political prisoners languishing in the jails of the Polisario and journalists recently dismissed from their posts for criticizing Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz. Karama Dich, a well-known dissident threatened to give Ms. Kerry a file with evidence implicating the criminal act of some officials of the Polisario.

Therefore and contrary to the initial program intended for the RFK Center delegation, Polisario officials refrained from organizing a visit to Rabouni where several protesters and opponents of the separatist leader, Mohamed Abdelaziz, gathered on the morning of August 29, with the hope of meeting Ms. Kerry Kennedy to raise awareness about their plight and the violations of their human rights by the Polisario leadership

It is worth mentioning that the visit of the president of the RFK Foundation occurs at a time and in a local context characterized by tensions in the Polisario camps as a result of the combined effect of the rise of protest groups, like the Khatt Shahid, which has been holding protests since March of 2011. These movements denounce the inability of the Polisario leadership to meet the aspirations of the younger Sahrawi generation born in the camps and who were deprived of their basic rights, as well as to stop the numerous infiltrations of terrorist elements and the related criminal North African Al Qaeda branch.

In October of last year, two Spanish and an Italian aid workers were kidnapped and led to the Sahel by a terrorist group in Rabouni, the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Polisario Front. These three European humanitarian aid workers remained nearly nine months in the hands of MUJAO whose spokesman is a member of the Polisario.

This situation was behind the decision taken by the Spanish and Italian governments, in the beginning of August 2012, to repatriate all humanitarian workers from the Tindouf camps in the south west of Algeria after confirming that terrorist groups had infiltrated the camps with the help of their associates operating in sleeper cells who were targeting aid workers.

Also, it is obvious that the strengthening of security measures and the state of alert declared throughout the camps during the visit of the president of RFK Foundation through the redeployment of the 6th military region, although in done so to deal with the infiltration of terrorist and criminal elements in and outside the camps, was also motivated by the intention of Polisario leaders to hide the wave of protests during the visit of the delegation. Kennedy?s visit was also marked by the announcement of the imminent return to Tindouf of the most famous Sahrawi opponent to Mohamed Abdelaziz, Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud.

With the football season in Europe being only a few days away from beginning (or having already begun in a few countries), this is when football betting enthusiasts open up their check books and get ready to put money on their favorite teams. The football seasons in England, Spain, and Italy are set to be as exciting as ever, with teams like Man United, Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus, and AC Milan all competing for the top prize in their respective countries. Here is a look at how odds for the season (and specific games) will play out.

England:

In England, the outright favorites to win the Premier League are last season?s champions Manchester City. Remember, City won the title in virtually the last minute of the season when they scored a stoppage time winner against QPR to pip rivals Manchester United. They are 13/10 with some bookmakers to repeat the feat. Rivals United are 2/1 after being close to signing Arsenal captain Robin van Persie. Chelsea, who have also invested heavily in Oscar, Eden Hazard, and Marko Marin, are 5-1. Arsenal are out at 12-1, which makes them long shots in the bookmakers eyes.

In terms of specific matches, The QPR-Swansea game on Saturday offers some good odds. Swansea are the away team and are priced at 13/5. QPR are at evens. Betting on Swansea would appeal to most, as they finished far higher than QPR last season. On Monday, Manchester United travel to Everton. A repeat 4-4 scoreline, a draw, from the same fixture in May is priced at 13/5 and is another appealing bet.

Top goalscorer in England is always an interesting one to bet on, especially as the odds for all players are relatively appealing. Sergio Aguero is the 7/1 favorite, with Wayne Rooney at 8/1. Last season?s player of the year and top scorer, Robin van Persie, is 8/1. Papiss Cisse, who is out at 20/1, scored a bucket full of goals in the second half of last season and would be a good outside bet.

Spain:

As we turn out attention to Spain, it is clear that only two teams are considered realistic contenders for the title. Real Madrid, last season?s champions, are priced at 8/11 and Barcelona are at 11/10. These odds are not particularly appealing, so it might be best to steer clear of betting in this area. Valencia, the third favorites, are a whopping 66/1 outsiders. Comparing bookies might be a good way to see where the best odds on Madrid or Barcelona are.

Individual match betting on Spain?s La Liga is a smarter bet. Malaga, despite selling a couple of players, would have a good chance at beating Celta Viga away from home. They are priced at 21/10 and that is excellent value. Atletico Madrid are 11/8 to beat Levante away, which is another potentially excellent value bet.

Italy:

With AC Milan, who finished second last season, selling Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, it is clear that bookmakers fancy Juventus to win the league again. They are at 11/10. Milan are priced at 11/4 with Inter Milan at 4/1. A bet on one of the Milan clubs might be smart, because there is still time for them to add players and they are always a threat domestically. Just be sure to compare bookies so you get the best odds.

Camden, Maine ? The Camden International Film Festival (CIFF) has unveiled the lineup for its Points North Documentary Forum. Now in its fourth year, Points North has quickly become the largest gathering in New England of documentary filmmakers and key industry decision makers. The two-day conference program runs concurrently with the festival from September 28 ? 29, 2012 at the historic Camden Opera House.

Points North provides independent documentary filmmakers opportunities for professional development and creative inspiration through a wide range of panel discussions, workshops, case studies, networking events and a public pitch session. Additionally, several industry delegates will be available for one-on-one pitching sessions with forum attendees on September 28.

Filmmakers, students and other Points North attendees will have numerous opportunities to connect with industry delegates throughout the festival weekend, both formally during one-on-one pitch sessions and informally during CIFF parties, happy hours and a special Friday-night reception honoring the 25th anniversary of PBS? flagship documentary series POV, sponsored by The Orchard.

?What really distinguishes Points North from other documentary conferences in major cities is the opportunity to connect on an intimate, personal level with both industry delegates and fellow filmmakers in a beautiful setting,? says Points North Director Sean Flynn. ?Camden provides the perfect retreat-like environment for filmmakers to focus on professional and creative development while reflecting on the future of documentary storytelling.?

One of the themes in this year?s Points North program will be how documentary storytelling is changing in response to new media technologies. In one panel discussion, top representatives from the New York Times, Vimeo and Etsy.com will explore how short documentaries are being used on the web to engage new audiences and experiment with new creative directions. A series of curated shorts from each of these sources will be shown before select screenings throughout the festival weekend.

As documentary filmmakers begin to explore the creative possibilities of interactive storytelling, Points North will host an exclusive hands-on workshop with Zeega, an open-source platform for inventing new forms of storytelling which was incubated at Harvard?s metaLAB. The workshop will be open to both professionals and amateurs alike, since using Zeega requires no prior filmmaking or programming experience. It will be presented in partnership with the University of Maine, Bowdoin College, Maine Media Workshops and Northeast Historic Film.

Another conference highlight will be ?Kickstarter School?, a crowdfunding workshop led by Kickstarter?s film program director Elisabeth Holm. Other panels will provide an overview of the current broadcast and distribution landscape for independent documentaries.

For filmmakers interested in strengthening their storytelling craft, Points North will feature an editing and story structure workshop led by Mary Lampson, Maine-based editor of the classic Academy Award-winning Harlan County, USA, and another workshop led by David Redmon and Ashley Sabin, directors of Downeast and last year?s critically-acclaimed Girl Model.

Once again this year, some of the documentary industry?s leading broadcasters, distributors, funding organizations and executive producers will convene at the Points North Pitch, a public pitch session held during the Forum on September 29. Up to six filmmakers will be given an opportunity to pitch their works-in-progress and receive critical feedback before a live audience. The event, which will be free and open to the public, is a unique opportunity for filmmakers to secure vital support for their projects and audience members to see how documentaries are developed in their early stages.

Filmmakers with feature-length documentaries in the works can apply to the Points North Pitch by submitting a short synopsis and trailer before the extended September 7 deadline. This year?s panel will include some of the documentary film industry?s most important decision-makers, including Simon Kilmurry from the PBS series POV, Beth Janson Executive Director of the Tribeca Film Institute, Brian Newman from Brainstorm Media and DIRECTV, Winona Meringolo from Discovery Channel, Sara Archambault from LEF Foundation, and many more. One project will receive a ?Best Pitch? award, which comes with a $1000 cash prize from Documentary Educational Resources and a $3000 scholarship to Maine Media Workshops.

In 2010, Maine-based filmmakers Jason Mann and Cecily Pingree won ?Best Pitch? with their film Betting the Farm. Since then, they?ve won competitive grants from the Sundance Documentary Fund, LEF Foundation and Chicken & Egg Pictures, and have been invited to the prestigious Sundance Producers Institute. They now return to CIFF to screen as the official opening night film.

BEIRUT (AP) ? Syrian rebels freed one of 11 Lebanese Shiite pilgrims they have been holding for three months on Saturday, in a move aiming to ease cross-border tensions after a wave of abductions of Syrian citizens in Lebanon.

Hussein Ali Omar, 60, appeared healthy in an interview aired on Qatar's Al-Jazeera TV as he crossed into Turkey after his release, urging the Lebanese and Arabs to support the Syrian people in the midst of their country's escalating civil war.

The release came a week after Lebanese tribesmen kidnapped two Turks and more than 20 Syrians to force the rebels to release Lebanese citizen Hassane al-Mikdad, who the rebels captured near the Syrian capital of Damascus and accused of being a member of Lebanon's militant Hezbollah group. The al-Mikdad clan, which later released most of the Syrians it was holding except for four, is a powerful Shiite Muslim family in Lebanon.

The Shiite pilgrims were abducted May 22 after crossing into Syria from Turkey on their way to Lebanon. A previously unheard of group calling itself "Syrian Rebels in Aleppo" claimed responsibility.

The group demanded that the Hezbollah leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, apologize for his comments in support of Syrian President Bashar Assad. Nasrallah, an ally of Assad's regime, has said the abduction would not change his group's stance.

Mohammed Nour, a rebel spokesman in the Syrian northern town of Azaz, said in a statement read on TV that the release was in response to a request by Lebanon's Association of Muslim Scholars and an adviser to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Nour did not say what they will do with the remaining 10 pilgrims but repeated his call for Hezbollah to "specify their stance regarding the Syrian people and revolution."

Syria's 18-month crisis has spilled over into neighboring Lebanon, where pro- and anti-Syrian group have clashed since Monday in the northern city of Tripoli. The latest violence in Tripoli killed at least 17 and wounded more than a 100 wounded.

In Syria, activists reported clashes between rebels and government troops and well as shelling in different areas including the northern province of Aleppo, the district of Idlib, the eastern region of Deir el-Zour and Daraa in the south. The activists also reported violence in some suburbs of the capital, Damascus, including Daraya which government troops entered on Thursday.

State-run news agency SANA reported heavy clashes in the northern city of Aleppo, Syria's largest, saying that "many terrorists" were killed or wounded.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said clashes in the eastern town of al-Bukamal, which borders Iraq, were concentrated near an air defense base. Al-Bukamal is in the oil-rich province of Deir el-Zour.

The Observatory said 109 people were killed in Daraya alone over the past four days as a result of clashes and violence.

The Local Coordination Committees, another activist group, said army helicopter gunships attacked the town of Qusair in the central province of Homs.

Activists say that more than 20,000 people have been killed since the country's crisis began in March last year.

Earlier Saturday, the head of a team of United Nations observers tasked to monitor a cease-fire in Syria that failed left Damascus. Lt. Gen. Babacar Gaye gave no statement before leaving for Lebanon.

The mission ended last Sunday but Gaye stayed for meetings. The U.N. Security Council has agreed to back a small new liaison office to support future peace efforts.

The observers' deployment in April was one of the only concrete achievements in Special Envoy Kofi Annan's attempts to halt the country's escalating civil war. They had intended to supervise a truce that never took hold.

Annan abandoned the job earlier this month and was replaced by veteran Algerian diplomat and former U.N. envoy to Afghanistan and Iraq Lakhdar Brahimi.

Brahimi hinted Friday at the immense challenges he faces trying to negotiate an end to the war, saying the mission left him "flattered, humbled and scared."
